A perfect dodge is a timed defensive result that creates a stronger opening than ordinary movement. The official Untitled Boxing Game description confirms the dash inputs—Space on PC and A on Xbox—but it does not publish perfect-dodge timing, direction rules, invulnerability frames, or punish duration.
Current player reports describe dodging toward the incoming punch as important after a 2026 combat change. Treat that as a current community-reported rule to verify on your server, not a timeless formula. Punch side, style animation, latency, and balance changes affect the practical result.
Learn the visual cue before the timing
Ask a partner to throw one light from a fixed side at a steady rhythm. Do not attack back. Watch shoulder movement, glove path, and the moment forward commitment becomes clear. Pick one visual cue you can name, such as the lead shoulder moving, rather than reacting to the final hit effect.
Block the first several attempts. This confirms that the attack reaches and gives you time to observe without guessing. Then dash very early, deliberately on time, and very late. The contrast teaches the active timing more reliably than repeating random inputs.
Record what the game displays on success: camera effect, sound, opponent slowdown, UI signal, or distinctive animation. An opponent simply missing because you left range is not automatically a perfect dodge.
Test the current direction rule

Account for stamina and network delay

Latency shifts when your local input reaches the server. Frame instability makes the visual cue harder to read. If timing suddenly changes, compare server ping and performance before assuming the mechanic was patched. Test on a stable server with the same partner when possible.
Never rely on a claimed universal number of frames without current measurement. A practical cue that works at your typical latency is more valuable than an old numeric window.
Build the smallest punish first
After a confirmed perfect dodge, use one light. If it lands consistently before the opponent can defend, add a second action. Test a heavy only after establishing its startup fits. Test an ultimate last, when its resource is available and the normal opening is understood.
The aim is a punish ladder:
- One light confirms that you recognized the state.
- A short light sequence tests additional available time.
- A heavy tests a larger commitment.
- A style special tests a condition-specific route.
- Ultimate tests a high-value conversion.
Stop at the last repeatable level. A dramatic option that works only against a stationary partner is not a reliable match punish.
Practice against different punch types
Once one light is consistent, test a light from the other side. Then test a clearly telegraphed heavy. Keep range fixed and change only the attack. Do not assume the same cue or timing applies to every style animation.
Ask the partner to alternate only after you can recognize both options individually. Random practice is valuable after controlled practice; before that, it makes failures impossible to diagnose.

Fix common failures
- Always too early: wait for forward commitment rather than the first stance movement.
- Correct timing, wrong result: verify current direction, stamina, and whether the attack was actually in range.
- Works in practice but not matches: add variable rhythm gradually and compare latency.
- Perfect dodge but no punish: use a smaller attack and begin it from the final dodge position.
- Repeatedly caught by feints: react to the committed punch, not every heavy startup.
Perfect dodging is one defensive answer. Block and ordinary repositioning remain valuable when the read is uncertain.
A measurable training goal
Run ten identical incoming lights. Count perfect dodge, normal dodge, range miss, and hit separately. Repeat after changing only direction, then after changing only timing cue. Keep the condition that produces the highest repeatable perfect-dodge count without increasing random dashes.
